Vista - MAPI32.DLL is corrupt or the wrong version

Problem: Although Office 2007 is deinstalled, there is an error message when starting Outlook 2003 (On Vista)

Error message is:

Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. MAPI32.DLL is corrupt or the wrong version. This could have been caused by installing other messaging sofware. Please reinstall Outlook.

Reinstalling Outlook 2003 has not helped. This has:

Rename the file MSMAPI32.DLL

It is located here:

Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033

(for some reason, search won't find it)

Great advice.. let me expand- if the advice above didn't work, rename both mapi32.dll AND msmapi32.dll to .bad files, then start outlook, it should do a setup process for a minute, and outlook will load.
