Workaround: When closing excel, go to 1. File - Close
(if excel crash here, click on restore window on worksheet before step 1) 2. File - Exit
and installing Open office.
Removing excel 2003,deleting office files didn't help, instaling excel 2007 didn't help. It works OK when opening new document but when current documents are opened, they spoil all other work with excel and start crashing new and old documents in excel! Service packs also didn't help.
Solid ink that was first to be taken inside of printer's catridge was deformed and thus printer reported that there is no ink present although it was filled up full. Once it was removed out of (with the help of office knife) and replaced with healthy chunks, it was ready again.
From Snapshot copy the following files to C:\Windows\Tmp: • _REGISTRY_USER_.DEFAULT • _REGISTRY_MACHINE_SECURITY • _REGISTRY_MACHINE_SOFTWARE • _REGISTRY_MACHINE_SYSTEM • _REGISTRY_MACHINE_SAM
• _REGISTRY_USER_.DEFAULT rename into DEFAULT • _REGISTRY_MACHINE_SECURITY rename into SECURITY • _REGISTRY_MACHINE_SOFTWARE rename into SOFTWARE • _REGISTRY_MACHINE_SYSTEM rename into SYSTEM • _REGISTRY_MACHINE_SAM rename into SAM
And then copy c:\windows\tmp\software c:\windows\system32\config\software copy c:\windows\tmp\system c:\windows\system32\config\system copy c:\windows\tmp\sam c:\windows\system32\config\sam copy c:\windows\tmp\security c:\windows\system32\config\security copy c:\windows\tmp\default c:\windows\system32\config\default
However, afterwards there was this error message: Error code: 0x80004005
It was solved with Windows Repair without formatting!! Just repair.
Then, there was error with logging into domain. The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed.
It was solved by typing in the name of domain (for example microsoft.corp) here:
Control panel - Network connections - Local Area Connection - Properties - Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) - Properties - Advanced - DNS DNS Suffix: microsoft.corp
Problem: There is "Replace..." message after replacement
Even though the instructions for Printer Samsung CLP550 says that it should be removed upwards, there is a small plastic above imaging unit which should be removed first. Otherwise it gets broken during unit pulling out. Instructions do not say nothing about that small plastic coat.
after replacing both imaging unit and transfer unit, printer continuosly report "replace imaging unit" and "replace transfer belt" on the display. On the other side of instructions it is said that it should be reset.
Menu - Maintainance - Check Others - Imaging Unit - Reset - Reset Now
Menu - Maintainance - Check Others - Transfer Belt - Reset - Reset Now
Problem: Laptop Asus V6000 has no screen after XP logo boot process
This time, removing battery didn't help. System restore also. Safe mode works ok. Reinstalling software for graphic's card, reducing start-up items, scan for viruses and spyware..didn't help. Also, chkdsk /r from safe mode didn't help - it just created more problems because it wasn't able to boot neither to safe mode afterwards. With system restore it was as before cheking disk. Chkdsk /r from bootable CDs also didn't help. Although some web forums claim that windows repair won't help- it solved this time. Windows repair - not by console option but when Instal, choose R for repair.
Problem: There is no picture after Windows splash screen
Safe mode works ok. Deinstalling video driver did not help. On web forums, people mention that it might be problem with power unit.
So, I removed battery from the laptop (shut down Windows and unplug it first! ), and re-inserted it back - and it worked ok afterwards. I also done online spyware-antivirus scan in safe mode before removal.
Problem: Printer Samsung ML-2851 takes paper only from the upper tray
The cause for printer ignoring the main tray and using only upper tray was a paper that was the last one in the rack. That single paper was slightly thrusted and it should be removed away from the tray. Somehow it made printer think that the whole main tray was missing even though it was correctly put in it's place.
Settings for pictures are not blocked. Solution found on firefox web helped to solve this: Clear your Firefox cache. At the top of the Firefox windowOn the menu bar, click on the ToolsFirefoxEdit menu, and select Options...Preferences.... In the OptionsPreferences window, select the Advanced panel. Under the Network tab, click Clear Now. http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Images+or+animations+do+not+show
Problem: Outlook freezes every time when it's opened
Solution was to find mail that started this and to delete it. Mail was on pst archive- this was copied to another machine, opened and mail removed. Once pst was copied back - it didn't freeze any more.
go to repair (press F8 immediately after starting and select first choice), then go to command prompt from repair window. The same window can be found via Vista installation DVD. Then copy x:\Windows\WinSxS\manifests\x86_microsoft.windows.common-controls_6595b64144ccf1df_6.0.6000.16386_none_5d07289e07e1d100.manifest to C:\Windows\WinSxS\manifests\x86_microsoft.windows.common-controls_6595b64144ccf1df_6.0.6000.16386_none_5d07289e07e1d100.manifest
PC resets after entering windows, BSD messages: page fault in nonpaged area, irql_not_less_or_equal, 0x0000000A, 0x0000007F, 0x00000050, NTFS.SYS, win32k.sys errors. After chkdsk from restore CD, this message appeard: "The volume appears to contain one or more unrecovable problems."
It worked ok after hdd test tools; from Hiren's, then Hitachi drive fitness test and same one on Ultimate boot cd. Hiren reported bad sectors, and Drive fitness test reported "0x00" report which means a software problem. (0x72 is bad HDD). After scan disk which was ran from repair mode on WIN XP setup CD, it reported errors and repairing. Scan disk was ran once more from Windows, after restart and also reported errors (as swhown on pic). When that same chkdsk was run before all these tests, it just restared the system even though it was booted from WINXP cd and in repair mode. As if these tests helped HDD to get sorted out?!
Problem: When opening document made in excel, it is not displayed
Symptoms: When shortcut of excel is opened, it is ok. But if any created excel documents are opened, it appears as if document is blocked from opening and nothing appears except toolbar. Document is not in "restore" mode, so maximize can't be done (which is often problem when excel document is not appearing). Also, office is deinstalled and reinstalled - and that didn't help. But when logging as other user (for example administrator, it works ok. This user also had macro button (on pic above it appears as yellow smiley, and when it's clicked on it, document appears!) Removal of that button didn't help. Checking visual basic script settings also didn't helped.
Solution: Since it works from other user, obvious solution was to replace current user with the new one and of course copy back all documents, pst files etc.
Problem: Old application with quick-time movies cannot start on WinXP
