Canon MF4100 have toner but display "no toner"

Problem: Although toner FX100 is in printer/fax/scanner Canon MF4100 - it displayes toner error "insert toner catridge, lift cover etc"

Solution: First remove all papers stacked for printing, then remove toner catridge and of course return toner back inside. One paper was in printer set to print - it should be removed, somehow it made canon to think that there's no toner.

Thanks!!!!

I had the exact issue this morning, and your fix worked.

This solution also worked form my MV4150. The error message was "Toner not set, insert toner". It hadn't occurred to me to remove the paper. I was afraid something was wrong with the printer. Thanks a bunch.

Thank you, it worked on my MF4150 like a charm.

PCProblems, Thank you very much for posting this solution.

I've talked to multiple Canon representatives and service dealers, but nobody knows whats wrong. Its simply clearing the error.

People like you are commendable and make the internet what it was originated to be. Helpful resource.

Thanks again.

worked on my MF4690 also. Thank you.

This worked like a charm. After fooling around with it for an hour, your fix worked in 30 seconds. THANKS!!!

Perfect! This worked like a charm!

And this was after I refilled the cartridge with toner myself, and shook it, and put it in, and took it out, and shook it, and put it in, and took it out, and shook it, and..... You get the idea.

I'm printing this page out and placing it in my instruction manual for future reference. Now, who would have come up with this idea of removing the paper as part of the solution -- totally non-intuitive! Thank goodness for the web and google!

Well thank you everyone. I have been having the same problem with my MF4150 but could not figure out why the error would not clear. As I kept reading msg after msg about removing the paper (and of course i had no paper in the machine) it finally hit me...I figured that since this paper seems to be so important that maybe a paper sensr was blocked of jammed up. Sure enough after checking in the rear (near the power cord) there was a tiny piece of paper stuck inside blocking the paper sensor!! BTW..i had to remove the rear door to get a good look in there. So there you have it....If anyone still gets the error and you have no paper loaded in the machine then start looking at the paper sensors and see if anything is obstucting the path. After I removed the tiny piece of paper the machine worked like a charm! Thanks again!

Thanks so much for saving me $130- I was about to go out and buy a new toner cartridge (the current one is only a few weeks old!)

Thanks so much. You make all those tech support people and service department managers look like cockcroaches from the Amazon jungle (actually I'm not sure if there are cockcroaches there, but to me that's what they look like). God bless your heart for your post.

Work like charm on my mf4100,even the canon technician cant' solve it on the phone. Thank you.

Thank you! That solved my problem too.

I spent over an hour playing with my printer and toner, taking the toner in and out of the machine, shaking it and then checking the manual if there was a reset toner button (I had just replaced the toner a month earlier). THANKS for your post. It was a nice and simple solution and fixed my problem right away.

Cannon MF4690 and the problem, "Toner is not Set". The solution of unplugging the printer, removing the paper, removing the toner cartridge, waiting about a minute, plugging the printer back in, putting in the cartridge, turning the power back on, and turning the power back.

Mučim se već pola dana i onda nađem ovo!
Super. Uspjelo je otprve sa MF4690PL.
Par papira je povuklo za nekih 2cm i to ga je zbunjivalo.
Vidim odakle si i da ćeš me razumjeti.
Hvala!

Just got a call from a customer with a MF4690PL facing the same problem and your advice worked. Canon helpdesk in Germany was clueless and no help at all. Thanks a lot!

imageclass 3200 series...toner not set install toner...the fix is: on the left side of the inside of the copier.. there are 2 silver spring contacts... these springs cause that error if they are mispositioned or bent.. i just fixed this copier this morning.. the paper tray didnt fix it.. best wishes

Worked brilliant on my Canon MF4690PL...

Cant believe Canon dont know of this bug if so many people are suffering from it! Its started by a crumpled or jammed piece of paper it looks like.

We had the same problem and the solution worked perfectly...it took just 30 seconds

This solution got rid of the gremlins in my MF4150.

Thank you SO much!!

We took out the paper, removed and immediately put the toner cartridge back in, and VOILA!! it's working.

Your paper trick worked, Thanks.

oh my goodness, thank you to whoever said check the paper sensors! I didn't have any paper in the printer and I was wondering how this fix wasn't working! I checked the rear door nothing, then i took a flashlight and looked inside, finally found the piece of paper blocking the paper sensor! Thank youuuu!!

I had the same problem with my 4690. I tinkered. I pulled and pushed. I bought another (expensive as they are) cartridge. To no avail. Then I found your advice and followed it. Magic! Thank you!

As others have stated, this fix worked. It saved me from buying a new copier. Thank you for the info.
Also, thanks to Google, that led me to this info in mere seconds (yet Cannon was clueless).

Hey, thanks so much.. I actually went out and bought a new toner for $100 and same problem. Your fix worked, dammmn could have saved me a bill. Thanks again.

Awesome info, worked on canon g3 fax printer!!

Anonymous said...

Genius!
Worked like a charm, who would have thought that this error could be fixed by simply removing the paper from the tray.
Thanks!

Thank you from here also - Canon MFC 4150. Saved me a trip to the office store!

I have yet failed to find a solution to my problem . It says "check paper" and "no tonner" ( something like that) . I tried removing than unpluging the printer. No change . I'm still looking for an answer. Also, where's that paper sensor some of you mentioned about ?

Anonymous said...

It worked! Misleading error message, simple fix. Thanks!

Anonymous said...

Can I also add my thanks!! It worked for me too. I have had the machine (an MF4660PL) for 3 years and never got the message until now. Talk about a misleading message!!! And there is nothing on Canon's website even now to give you this answer!!

Anonymous said...

I'll add my thanks. I even went out and bought a new toner cartridge--same stupid error message. Who would have thought the paper had anything to do with it. Sheesh!

Anonymous said...

Thanks! worked for me as well (Cannon MF4150)

Thanks for posting this; saved me the hassle of going to Staples to print copies !!!!

ok folks I have the answer for all those who tried the above and it did not work; in my case I opened the back of the machine after power is disconnected, take back cover off, remove 4 screws in total and carefully using a flat screwdriver lift out the plastic cover (may lose a bit of plastic but should not be an issue) and you will see a white small lever that you can see the other end of after you remove the toner. That level in my case came out of its lateral mounting probably because someone pushed in the toner cartridge, once remounted it worked again and problem was solved. I was about to throw it out. Thank goodness I did not. The industry update was rubbish. This was a mechanical glitch. I have not see this posted anywhere else, so I had to come back and post this having spent weeks on this. It explains why some people found a piece of paper jamming that level on the toner side also.

maaan, you are the coolest, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Just to hepl french to get the solution !

Retirer toute les feuilles des bacs à papier. Ouvrez et refermez le capot, miracle ! le message "toner non defini inserer le toner" disparait

thanhthanh said...

I remove all the papers and cartridge out. after that I put toner in and the paper. Error will disappear but when I turn on printer, the printer keep say errors "set paper again set toner again". when I print something, I have to take toner out and put it back. anyone help me.
